Capping &
Decapping
Module.

Automates the capping and decapping of tubes, vials, and bottles across a wide range of formats — from 1.5ml microtubes to 50ml Falcon tubes and bottles up to 50mm in diameter. Handles both screw caps and push-in caps, with Dorna-built holding fixtures, optional AI vision, and a cap feeder for fully unattended operation.

Torque-controlled screw cap handling

Torque-Controlled Screw Cap Handling

Adjustable torque control ensures consistent, accurate capping on every cycle. Too much torque damages threads and caps — too little leaves samples unsealed. Dorna's capping module is configured to the exact torque range your tubes require, eliminating both over-tightening and loose caps across every format in your workflow.

  • Configurable torque per tube format
  • Prevents thread damage and loose seals
  • 1.5ml microtubes to 50ml Falcon tubes
Push-in cap operation

Push-In Cap Handling

A dedicated pneumatic finger design handles push-in caps reliably without deforming or damaging them. The same base gripper platform is used — with application-specific fingers engineered for the geometry of push-in caps.

  • Dedicated pneumatic finger design
  • No deformation or damage to caps
  • Shared gripper platform — swappable fingers

Tube Holding & Cap Retention

Two fixed Dorna-built pneumatic stations work together to keep every cycle clean and controlled. The tube holding station grips the tube firmly in place while the robot applies or removes the cap — preventing slipping or tipping. The cap retention station holds removed caps securely between decapping and recapping cycles, preventing cross-contamination and cap loss.

  • Pneumatic tube holding station
  • Dedicated cap retention between cycles
  • Prevents cross-contamination and cap loss
Vision system detecting cap presence

Vision-Assisted Operation

When paired with the Dorna Vision Kit, the module detects cap presence, identifies missing caps, verifies cap type, and flags anomalies — automatically, on every cycle. Vision can be used for quality control, error detection, or as a trigger for conditional workflow steps.

  • Cap presence and type detection
  • Anomaly flagging and error detection
  • Conditional workflow triggers

Cap Feeder

The cap feeder enables fully unattended capping workflows. The operator loads caps in bulk into a spinning drum — the feeder automatically orients each cap and stages it for the robot to pick. Feeder plates are interchangeable to accommodate different cap geometries. Uses dedicated gripper fingers and AI vision to ensure accurate cap orientation on every pick.

  • Bulk cap loading — spinning drum feeder
  • Interchangeable feeder plates per cap type
  • AI vision ensures correct orientation every pick
This module is available as part of a fully integrated Dorna solution.
