Pipette as a Robot End Effector

Traditional pipetting workstations are fixed — the deck layout is rigid and reconfiguration is complex. Dorna's approach is different. The pipette mounts directly on the robot arm, giving it the full spatial freedom of a 6-axis system. The robot moves the pipette to any position on the fixture plate — between tube racks, microplates, reservoirs, and other modules — within the same workflow. No separate liquid handling deck required. The probe length of up to 65mm enables deep access into tubes and vials.

  • Full 6-axis reach — no fixed deck
  • Moves between racks, plates, and reservoirs
  • 65mm probe for deep tube access

Pressure-Based Liquid Intelligence

The pipette uses pressure-based liquid level detection (pLLD) to locate the liquid surface in real time — automatically adjusting probe depth to follow the meniscus. This eliminates air aspiration errors regardless of fill level variation. The system monitors each aspiration cycle for clots, air bubbles, and empty vessel conditions — flagging errors before they propagate downstream. Detection speed is 30ms.

  • pLLD — real-time surface tracking
  • Clot & air bubble monitoring
  • Empty vessel detection
  • 30ms detection speed

Automatic Tip Management

Tip racks mount on the fixture plate in fixed, known positions. The robot picks a fresh tip automatically at the start of each pipetting cycle — no manual loading between cycles. After dispensing, the tip is ejected into a dedicated waste tray. The entire tip lifecycle is automated and tracked within the workflow. Compatible with standard tips in 10µL, 50µL, 200µL, and 1000µL formats from most major tip manufacturers.

  • Automatic tip pickup and ejection
  • Dedicated waste tray on fixture plate
  • Full tip lifecycle tracking

Dorna Workspace Integration

Every aspect of pipetting behavior — aspirate and dispense volumes, speeds, liquid level detection, aspiration monitoring thresholds — is configured directly in Dorna Workspace. Pipetting steps chain seamlessly with tube handling, capping, inspection, and any other module in the system. No separate liquid handling software, no manual scripting, no integration overhead.

  • Configure volumes, speeds, and thresholds
  • Chain with any other module
  • No separate liquid handling software

Any Standard Tip, Any Brand

No proprietary consumables. The module works with standard disposable tips from every major manufacturer — Eppendorf, Rainin, Sartorius, Thermo Fisher, Axygen, and others. Tips fit directly with no adapters and no modifications. Four volume classes cover the full pipetting range: 10µL for ultra-low volume precision work, 50µL for micro dispensing, 200µL for general-purpose transfers, and 1000µL for high-volume operations. Use whatever tips are already stocked in your lab.

  • 10µL, 50µL, 200µL, and 1000µL volumes
  • Eppendorf, Rainin, Sartorius, Thermo Fisher, Axygen, and more
  • No proprietary tips — use what's already in your lab
