Top and Side Approach Grippers
Two gripper types handle plates from different orientations depending on what the workflow layout and destination allow. When the top of the plate is accessible, the top gripper is used. When top access is blocked — by a lid, stacked plates, or an instrument — the side gripper takes over. The right gripper is selected at configuration time based on your specific workflow.

Lid Removal & Replacement
The same plate grippers handle lid removal and replacement — no dedicated lid station or separate tool required. The robot removes the lid, places it at a designated position, and replaces it after processing. Compatible with standard SBS format lids.

Precision Plate Positioning
Hard-anodized aluminum SBS adapters mount directly to the fixture plate, providing a precise, repeatable seating position for SBS format plates. Used wherever a plate needs to be held securely — for storage, liquid handling, inspection, or any other workflow step. Plates drop in and out cleanly with every pick and place cycle.

Hotel Storage & Retrieval
The SBS plate hotel stores and retrieves plates across up to 8 levels, with adjustable level spacing to accommodate different plate types including standard microplates and deep well plates. Multiple hotels can be deployed on a single platform for higher capacity. Plates with tubes or vials inside can also be stored and retrieved — enabling automated feeding of downstream instruments or consolidation of samples. Stacked plates without a hotel are also supported for simpler, space-efficient workflows.

Vision-Assisted Plate Handling
When paired with the Dorna Vision Kit, the module supports vision-based picking for dynamic plate positions, barcode reading on plates and lids, presence detection, lid verification, and content inspection. Vision can trigger conditional workflow steps — routing plates based on inspection results or flagging anomalies before processing continues.
